The lighting design is designed in accordance with the technical requirements of CAAC: "Technical Requirements for Airport and Heliport Lighting Beacons" (AC-137-CA-2015-11), including but not limited to the following requirements.
1.Airport beacons should flash coloured and white alternating or white flashes
2.Colored flashes emitted by beacons at land airports should be green and those emitted by beacons at sea airports should be yellow
3.The total flash rate should be 20 to 30 times per minute. The duration of a single flash should be 75ms ~ 300ms.
4.The light from the beacon should be visible at all azimuths, and the center of the beam of the beacon at the airport should be set to 5° above the horizontal
5.The beacon shall be designed as a rotating beacon with a constant light source, or a non-rotating beacon with a flashing light source.

Airport rotating beacons, also known as airport identification beacons, play an important role in ensuring the safety of aircraft takeoff and landing operations. These lights are powerful, high-intensity lamps that rotate at a fixed rate to provide a distinctive visual signal to pilots and ground crews, helping to identify the airport's location and runway approach heading.

Types of Airport Rotating Beacons

There are several types of airport rotating beacons based on their design, construction, and intended application. The most common types are:

1. Aerodrome beacons: These beacons are designed to provide a flash sequence pattern of two white flashes followed by one green flash.

2. Heliport beacons: These beacons are designed to provide a flash sequence pattern of two white flashes followed by one yellow flash.

3. Obstruction beacons: These beacons are designed to provide a steady or flashing red or white light to indicate the presence of obstacles on the runway or surrounding areas.

Technical Parameters of Airport Rotating Beacons

The ICAO has set specific guidelines and technical requirements for airport rotating beacons to ensure their proper functioning and compatibility with aviation standards. The key parameters of airport rotating beacons are:

1. Brightness: The beacon should be visible from a minimum distance of five nautical miles in clear weather conditions.

2. Rotation speed: The beacon should rotate at a speed of 6 to 30 revolutions per minute, with a preference for 12 to 20 revolutions per minute.

3. Flashing pattern: The beacon should emit a flashing sequence of white-green or white-yellow lights, depending on the intended application.

4. Power consumption: The beacon should consume a minimum amount of power to ensure efficient operation and reduce maintenance costs.

ICAO Standards for Airport Rotating Beacons

The ICAO has established specific regulations and guidelines for airport rotating beacons to ensure their proper installation, maintenance, and operation. The main standards include:

1. Beacon location: The beacon should be installed at a height of no less than 3 meters above the highest obstacle at the aerodrome.

2. Obstruction marking: If the aerodrome rotating beacon is installed on an obstacle, it should be marked with obstruction lights.

3. Maintenance: The beacon should be cleaned, inspected, and serviced regularly to ensure its proper functioning.

4. Backup power: The beacon should be equipped with a backup power source to ensure continuous operation in case of a power outage.

Market Demand for Airport Rotating Beacons

The market demand for airport rotating beacons is driven by several factors, including expanding air traffic, increasing airport construction and upgrades, and growing safety and security concerns. The major market players in the airport rotating beacon industry include Honeywell International Inc., Crouse-Hinds Airport Lighting Products, Hughey & Phillips, LLC, and Flight Light Inc. The industry is highly competitive, with companies focusing on product innovation, customer service, and cost-effective solutions to gain a competitive edge.

Conclusion

Airport rotating beacons are essential for ensuring the smooth and safe operation of aircraft takeoff and landing operations. The ICAO has established specific regulations and guidelines to ensure their proper functioning, installation, and maintenance. As air travel continues to grow and evolve, the demand for airport rotating beacons is likely to rise, and companies will need to focus on continuous innovation and customer satisfaction to remain competitive in the market.

Runway End Identification Lights: An Essential Part of Aviation Safety

For pilots, one of the most critical elements of a safe landing is being able to accurately identify the end of the runway. This can be particularly challenging in low visibility conditions such as fog or heavy rain.

Fortunately, technology has provided a solution to this problem in the form of runway end identification lights (REILs). These lights are installed at the end of each runway and provide a visual cue to pilots indicating the precise location of the threshold.

The design of REILs is based on a color-coding system. The lights at the beginning of the runway are red, while those at the end of the runway are white. This color combination provides an unambiguous indication of the runway's end, even in adverse weather conditions.

REILs can be activated manually or automatically. In many cases, they are linked to the aircraft's navigation systems and are triggered when the plane approaches the runway threshold.

The installation of REILs has been a significant advancement in aviation safety. The lights provide an essential reference point for pilots, ensuring that they can make safe landings even in the most challenging weather conditions.

In conclusion, runway end identification lights are an essential component of aviation safety. They provide a reliable reference point for pilots, allowing them to make safe landings even in poor visibility conditions. With the continuing advancements in aircraft navigation systems and lighting technology, REILs will no doubt continue to play an important role in ensuring the safety of air travel.
