Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority stated that a K2 Airlines cargo plane lost contact with air traffic control after taking off from the United Arab Emirates on July 7th, and ultimately disappeared near Karachi port.

The Airports Authority of Pakistan issued a statement saying that a K2 Airlines Boeing 737 cargo plane, en route from Sharjah to Karachi, reported a navigation system malfunction at 21:18 Pacific Standard Time. The Karachi Regional Control Center provided navigation services.

At 21:21, the aircraft was observed on radar rapidly descending, and its flight path changed rapidly. Subsequently, the aircraft lost all radar signal and communication approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.

Following the incident, the Pakistan Rescue Coordination Center immediately launched an operation, with relevant agencies jointly conducting a maritime search and rescue operation to locate the missing aircraft.

There were five crew members on board the aircraft.

The last transmitted data indicated that the aircraft had reached an altitude of 1,100 feet (335 meters) and a vertical descent rate of 22,400 feet per minute (over 6,800 meters).

K2 Airlines' website indicates that it is a private cargo airline based in Karachi, established in 2018.

Data shows that the missing aircraft was a Boeing 737-400 freighter, registration number AP-BOI, 27.5 years old. It was previously operated by Aeroflot and Garuda Indonesia, among others, before being converted into a freighter. K2 Airlines leased the aircraft in October 2024.

K2 Airlines owns only this one aircraft.
