The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board said there were six parachutists and one pilot on board the plane, who were performing a parachute mission before the plane crashed.
The Bates County Sheriff's Office said the wreckage was found in a field east of the runway at Butler Memorial Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the plane was a single-engine Cessna.
