Civil Aviation Resources Network, August 12, 2025: According to media reports, a small plane collided with a parked plane while landing at an airport in Montana that day, causing a large-scale fire.
According to Kalispell Police Chief Jordan Venezio and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the single-engine plane, carrying four people, was preparing to land at the Kalispell Municipal Airport around 2 p.m. that day.
The FAA stated that the aircraft involved, a Socata TBM 700 turboprop, struck an unmanned aircraft on the ground during landing. Venezio said the collision caused a fire that spread to the nearby grassy area and was subsequently extinguished, affecting several aircraft at the scene.
The airport is a small municipal airport located south of Kalispell, a city of approximately 30,000 in northwestern Montana.
Kalispell Fire Chief Jay Hagen said witnesses reported that a plane approaching from the south lost control and struck another plane after making an emergency landing at the end of the runway.
Hagen said the plane caught fire while attempting to land, but after coming to rest, the pilot and three passengers successfully self-evacuated.
Hagen also said two passengers received minor injuries and were treated at the airport. Federal Aviation Administration records show the plane was manufactured in 2011 and is owned by Meter Sky LLC of Pullman, Washington.
