China Eastern Airlines announces flight changes, free refunds for expensive tickets
News from Civil Aviation Resources Network on January 5, 2024: In order to meet the travel needs of passengers and improve the ticket purchasing experience, China Eastern Airlines will adjust the ticket refund and change rules starting from January 10, 2024. details as follows:
1. The new version of voluntary refund and change rules will apply to China Eastern Airlines domestic tickets sold from 0:00 on January 10, 2024, Beijing time. The new version of the rules adjusts the charging standards for voluntary ticket refunds and changes. For details, please refer to the "China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines Domestic Tariff Usage Rules". The rules have added a free cancellation and change provision beyond 30 days before flight departure.
2. Applications for involuntary change or refund of China Eastern Airlines tickets accepted from 0:00 on January 10, 2024, Beijing time, will be expanded to applicable scenarios, as follows:
(1) Expand the scope of free refund and change of passenger tickets
Factors such as aircraft type changes that cause you to be unable to travel, flight changes that lead to changes in itinerary, flight stopover delays and other factors will be included in the scope of application for free refunds and changes to tickets. For force majeure factors such as airport transfers, natural disasters, and public safety reasons, please pay attention to the temporary announcements issued by China Eastern Airlines.
(2) Relaxation of cancellation and change rules for passengers due to illness
1. For passengers who are unable to travel due to illness, both domestic and international tickets held by China Eastern Airlines can apply for changes or refunds due to illness.
2. The medical institutions that issue certificates of withdrawal due to illness are relaxed to hospitals and affiliated medical institutions listed by the National Health Commission. 3. The number of fellow passengers handling ticket refunds and changes with sick passengers is relaxed to 5 (inclusive).

If the price of the ticket is reduced through the original ticket purchase channel after the ticket is purchased, you are allowed to re-purchase the ticket at the same ticket purchase channel within 24 hours after the ticket purchase. The original ticket that meets certain conditions will be refunded free of charge.
(4) New involuntary refund and change rules for non-consecutive tickets
For tickets purchased separately and forming a continuous itinerary under certain conditions, the cancellation fee will be waived when flight irregularities occur.
(5) If you purchase the wrong ticket through China Eastern Airlines' official website, APP, or mini-program online self-sale channels, and meet certain conditions, you can get a free refund.
