Civil Aviation Resources Network, April 27, 2025: The Civil Aviation Administration of China held a press conference on the morning of April 27, 2025. A reporter asked: How was the development of the international passenger transport market in the first quarter? Has it reached or exceeded the level of the same period in 2019?

Shang Kejia, Deputy Director of the Transport Department of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, replied: In the first quarter of this year, the international airline network continued to expand, and the number of international flights and passengers further increased.

In terms of flight volume, domestic and foreign airlines operate an average of 6395 international passenger flights per week, which is 83.9% of 2019. Among them, the peak of Spring Festival travel rush is 6960 trips per week, which is 91.3% of 2019. The number of flights from China to 35 countries, including Japan, the United Kingdom and Italy, has exceeded the level of 2019, and the proportion of flights recovered with countries jointly building the the Belt and Road is 94.5%, 10.6 percentage points higher than the average.

In terms of passenger volume, taking Chinese airlines as an example, a total of 18.925 million international passengers were transported in the first quarter, a significant increase of 34% year-on-year and a 4.5% increase compared to the same period in 2019. The passenger transport volume from China to Northeast Asia, West Asia, Central Asia, Europe, Africa and other regions increased by 20%, 91%, 233%, 71% and 241% respectively compared to 2019.

As of now, there are 28 Chinese airlines and 100 foreign airlines operating international passenger routes in China. A total of 78 countries were navigable, a net increase of 4 countries compared to 2019. The traditional market route network between China and Asia and Europe continues to improve, while the routes between China and Latin American, South Pacific, and African countries are further expanded, and the accessibility of international flights is further improved.

Next, the Civil Aviation Administration of China will continue to promote the increase of international passenger flights: on the one hand, targeting the traditional market, focusing on "optimizing structure, improving quality, and ensuring stability", guiding airlines to differentiate and compete, achieving steady progress and improving quality and efficiency; On the other hand, for emerging markets, airlines are encouraged to actively layout and expand their route networks, accelerate the construction of the Air Silk Road, and better serve the overall diplomatic and foreign trade situation of the country.
