Civil Aviation Administration of China responds to "passenger information leakage": Documents are being prepared to strengthen data protection

News from the Civil Aviation Resources Network on October 30, 2023: Recently, some netizens reported through the People’s Daily Leaders Message Board: Recently, they and their friends searched for flight information and booked air tickets on the XX Map App. Three people received fraudulent calls. In the name of the company's customer service, they asked us to provide our Alipay account for compensation on the grounds of mechanical failure and flight cancellation, and were able to report our name, phone number, ID card, flight information, etc.

The netizen believes that firstly, false flight cancellation information interferes with passengers' itineraries, and secondly, this information leakage problem is extremely serious. If there are passengers who do not know the truth, it will cause serious property losses.

It is hoped that the Civil Aviation Administration of China will coordinate with the public security departments to strictly investigate the leakage of passenger information and the use of flight information fraud by third-party online channel agencies.

In response, the Civil Aviation Administration of China stated:

The Civil Aviation Administration of China attaches great importance to data governance, conscientiously implements the Cybersecurity Law, Data Security Law, Personal Information Protection Law and other relevant regulations, and has successively issued the "7+1" series of smart civil aviation data governance specifications (7 industry standards, 1 (Ministry Information Notice) to guide and standardize industry units in carrying out data sharing, data services, data security and other work.

Currently, in order to implement the relevant requirements for classification and hierarchical protection of data in the civil aviation field, the Civil Aviation Administration is preparing relevant documents to further strengthen the protection of important data.

At the same time, the Civil Aviation Administration of China will actively coordinate with the public security agencies to carry out strict investigation and crackdown on issues such as passenger information leakage by third-party network channel agencies.
