Civil Aviation Resources Network, July 8, 2025: According to foreign media reports, on July 7, local time, a portable battery in a passenger's carry-on luggage suddenly caught fire during a Delta Air Lines flight. The flight then made an emergency landing in Fort Myers, Florida, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation.
The flight involved was DL1334, which was originally scheduled to fly from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale. It carried 185 passengers and 6 crew members and was operated by a Boeing 757. The FAA said that the crew reported smoke in the cabin during the flight.
Delta Airlines said in a statement: "The flight attendants took quick action to extinguish a burning battery, and the flight made a safe emergency landing."
It is reported that aircraft are usually equipped with fireproof isolation bags, which can isolate the burning battery when it fails until it lands safely.
According to Delta Airlines, no one was injured in the incident. A Delta Air Lines spokesperson said: "We thank the crew for their immediate and effective response and sincerely apologize to our passengers for the flight delay."
