WASHINGTON, Dec. 4, 2022: Delta Air Lines will raise pay for pilots by at least 34% over the duration of a proposed deal, another sign that pilots are pushing for better pay and other benefits in the now-booming aviation industry.
The proposal still needs to be approved by union leaders and then must be approved by Delta pilots. But a deal would set a standard for rivals who are also trying to strike new contracts in what has become an industry-wide standoff between airlines and pilot unions.
The pay increase was phased in and included an 18% raise at the time the agreement was signed, followed by three pay increases in subsequent years. The deal also includes a clause guaranteeing that Delta pays pilots at least 1 percent more than rivals American Airlines Group and United Airlines.
