30 September 2022: The Director of Civil Aviation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Liao Zhiyong, attended the 41st ICAO Assembly held at the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO, ICAO) in Montreal, Canada.
The triennial conference is held in a combination of physical and online formats and is attended by representatives from member states, NGOs, regional and air transport industry associations. The Hong Kong SAR Civil Aviation Department delegation, led by the Director of Civil Aviation, participated in the conference as a member of the Chinese delegation.
With the theme of "Reconnecting the World", the conference held discussions on 56 topics including aviation safety, air navigation capability and efficiency, security and facilitation, economic development, technical cooperation, and environmental protection.
Liao Zhiyong believes that this ICAO General Assembly is the largest meeting of the global civil aviation industry since the new crown epidemic, which is of great symbolic significance to the recovery of the aviation industry. He is very happy to participate in this conference to discuss the challenges brought by the epidemic with aviation leaders from all over the world. The Civil Aviation Department of Hong Kong SAR will continue to maintain close cooperation with various aviation partners and work hard for aviation safety and the orderly recovery of the industry.
On the eve of the conference, a delegation from the Hong Kong SAR Civil Aviation Department participated in the ICAO Innovation Expo 2022, where participants exchanged views on the challenges and opportunities brought about by innovation, and committed to promoting the use of innovative technologies to enhance the resilience of the aviation industry.
