Civil Aviation Resources Network, January 7, 2025: According to Reuters, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) said on January 6 that it was investigating reports of a "potential information security incident" after it was reported that tens of thousands of records of the agency were suspected of being stolen.

In a statement released on its official website, ICAO pointed out that the possible security breach may be related to "a threat actor that specifically targets international organizations."

ICAO confirmed to Reuters in a follow-up email that the investigation was related to a claim on a hacker forum on January 6 that 42,000 records of the agency had been stolen, but did not elaborate.

ICAO said: "As the investigation is still in its early stages, we are not able to provide further details about the incident or confirm specific claims about the data that may have been affected."

ICAO was reportedly hacked in 2016 and later claimed to have significantly strengthened its security measures.
