Since Korean Air announced the merger in 2020, it has obtained approval from all 14 countries required for the merger. This is the first time in more than 4 years since the acquisition of Asiana Airlines was announced in November 2020. If the merged Korean Air is established, it will become one of the top 10 large airlines in the world.
The results of the review by the US Department of Justice will not be announced separately. It is reported that the Department of Justice has stated its position that if no antitrust lawsuit is filed, it will be deemed to be approved, but it has decided not to file a lawsuit.
According to previous reports, on November 28, local time, the European Commission officially approved the merger application of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines. As a result, the four-year merger process of the two major airlines is expected to be officially completed next month.
