According to Singapore media reports, Singapore police announced on October 7 that a 47-year-old American man-suspected of stealing perfume worth over S$1,400 from multiple counters in the Changi Airport transit area about a year ago-was arrested while transiting through Singapore again in September and is set to be charged in court on October 8.
According to a police statement, authorities received a report at 11:58 a.m. on November 5, 2025, regarding a theft at a retail store in the Changi Airport Terminal 3 transit area; a staff member had discovered a box of perfume missing from a display shelf.
CCTV footage revealed that the suspect had taken a box of perfume valued at S$331 and left without paying at 7:38 p.m. the previous day (November 4). Further investigations uncovered that, unsatisfied with his initial theft, the man proceeded to the Terminal 2 transit area later that evening, where he stole three additional boxes of perfume worth a total of S$646 from two other shops.
By the time officers from the Changi Airport Police Division identified the man, he had already left Singapore.
The man returned to Changi Airport for a connecting flight on the morning of April 24, 2026. Investigations revealed that at 7:15 a.m. that day, he stole a box of perfume worth S$236.90 from one shop, followed six minutes later by the theft of another box worth S$195.40 from a different shop, before departing Singapore once more.
Subsequent police investigations linked all the incidents to the same individual; however, authorities were unable to make an arrest at the time because the suspect had already left the country. On September 25, 2026, the man was transiting through Singapore again when he was apprehended on the spot by Airport Police Division officers who had been deployed in anticipation of his arrival.
He is scheduled to appear in court on October 8 to face five charges of theft. Under Singapore law, a conviction for theft carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both.
