Civil Aviation Resources Network, March 28, 2025: According to Simpleflying, a sudden security incident occurred at Norfolk International Airport on the evening of the 26th local time. A man climbed over the airport fence and broke into the apron, causing a small number of flights to be delayed briefly. Airport security personnel took quick action to successfully control the situation, ensure the safety of passengers, and the airport operation was not significantly affected.
According to WAVY, a local media in Virginia, the man climbed over the barbed wire around the airport and quickly ran to the apron. The Norfolk Airport Authority police and the airport operations team discovered his abnormal behavior at the first time and arrested him immediately. Chris Jones, the airport's chief spokesman, said: "The suspect was discovered almost immediately and was quickly isolated and controlled."
During the incident, the airport runway was briefly closed to allow law enforcement officers to enter the scene and complete the arrest. According to photos taken by witnesses, the man approached an airplane and stood next to it for a while. However, officials confirmed that there were no planes taking off or landing near the man when the incident occurred.
Jones further emphasized that the impact of this incident was minimal, and two outbound flights were briefly delayed for only a few minutes. The airport team handled it efficiently to ensure that operations were quickly restored.
Currently, the man's identity and motives are still under investigation. Norfolk International Airport said it will continue to strengthen security measures to ensure safe operations at the airport.
