Civil Aviation Resource Net, October 8, 2026: Following the confirmation that Turkish low-cost giant Pegasus Airlines has completed its acquisition of Czech Airlines and the Smartwings Group, Smartwings has appointed a new CEO and CFO.

On October 2, 2026, Smartwings announced that its team was "opening a new chapter and welcoming two new leadership appointments."

Emre Pekesen has been appointed as the new CEO of Smartwings, and Nur Karabacak as CFO. Both appointments take effect on October 1, 2026.
Pekesen joined Pegasus Airlines in 2010 as Sales Director and has served as Group Sales and Network Planning Director since 2022.
Nur Karabacak joined Pegasus Airlines in 2018 as Investor Relations Manager and has served as Head of Group Budgeting, Reporting, and Cost Control since 2019.
In a statement, Pegasus Airlines said: "We thank both of them for their valuable contributions to Pegasus Airlines over the years and wish them every success in their new roles at Smartwings."
On October 1, 2026, following receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals and the satisfaction of customary closing conditions, Pegasus Airlines completed its acquisition of Czech Airlines and the Smartwings Group.
The combined fleet comprises over 175 aircraft, with 140 firm orders currently in place.
Commenting on the completion of the transaction, Pegasus Airlines CEO Güliz Öztürk said: "Our story began with a dream-a world where everyone could fly. Today, Pegasus Airlines and Smartwings are moving forward together to carry that ambition into the future. By joining forces, we can achieve further growth and offer travelers more choices than either of us could provide alone."
