Vu Daxing, spokesperson of the State Secretariat of the Civil Aviation Administration of Cambodia, revealed in March that 90% of the total construction work of the Angkor International Airport project in Siem Reap has been completed, and the test flight will begin in May this year, one month earlier than originally planned. Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is jointly invested and built by three provincial state-owned enterprises in Yunnan Province, China, Yuntou Group, Yunnan Construction Investment Group, and Yunnan Airport Group.
The project is located in Sonegon County, Siem Reap Province, 40 kilometers away from Angkor Wat, and covers an area of about 700 hectares. After completion, it can meet the take-off and landing of large aircraft such as Boeing 777 and Airbus A340. The passenger throughput of the airport is 7 million passengers per year at the beginning of its operation, which will increase to 10 million passengers in 2030 and 20 million passengers in 2050.
