According to the Turkish Embassy in China, Turkey and China signed a new memorandum of understanding in the field of civil aviation on May 14, and the number of weekly passenger flights between the two countries will increase from 21 to 49.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Turkish General Civil Aviation Authority (SHGM) and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) held bilateral aviation talks in Beijing. After what officials from both sides called constructive and fruitful negotiations, a consensus was finally reached to increase the frequency of flights. In the aviation field, "frequency" refers to the number of round-trip flights between the two countries.
The agreement marks the first increase in flight quotas between Turkey and China in about 15 years. Officials believe that this move has opened a new era in the air transport relationship between the two countries - recently, the two countries have strengthened cooperation in many fields such as the automotive industry.
In addition, Chengdu, Xi'an and Urumqi have been identified as new destinations for Turkish Airlines, paving the way for the opening of routes to these cities in the future.
Relevant officials said that adding flights in a strategically important market like China is expected to significantly improve the accessibility of Turkish civil aviation in Asia and the world.
