On June 25, 2026, Civil Aviation Resource Network reported that an Air Canada flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Boston Logan International Airport on Wednesday, June 24, local time, after the captain suffered a medical emergency.

This dramatic incident occurred on Air Canada Flight 7664, en route from Newark to Halifax International Airport.

It is reported that approximately one hour after takeoff, the captain experienced a medical emergency in the cockpit and was removed according to safety procedures.

The first officer then took control of the aircraft and decided to divert to Boston at 1:37 PM.

The aircraft involved was a de Havilland Dash 8-400 twin-turboprop aircraft. Air Canada confirmed that there were 61 passengers on board at the time of the incident.

At approximately2 p.m., the plane landed safely at Boston Logan Airport. Several ambulances quickly drove onto the runway and brought the stretcher to the cockpit.

Within minutes of landing, the pilot was transferred from the aircraft to an ambulance.

According to passenger Rodney McDonald, "The plane started shaking violently, and a few seconds later the flight attendants rushed into the cockpit and then dragged a pilot out." The captain appeared to be suffering from some kind of medical emergency, and he and other passengers immediately assisted the crew. "It was terrifying; it took me and four other people a full 40 minutes to calm him down."

Passengers mentioned that the captain remained unconscious until the emergency landing, and they had to restrain his limbs with seatbelts until he gradually regained consciousness after landing.

Both Massachusetts police and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that a crew member's medical emergency led to the emergency landing.

The FAA stated, "Air Canada Flight 7664 landed safely at Boston Logan International Airport at approximately 2:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 24, after the crew reported a medical emergency in the pilot."

No further information regarding the captain's specific condition has been released.
