The flight was too heavy to take off, 19 passengers got off the plane!

On July 5, an EasyJet plane was unable to take off due to overweight. Nearly 20 passengers were asked to voluntarily get off the plane, and each passenger was compensated 500 euros.

EasyJet U23364 originally planned to take off from Lanzarote Airport to Liverpool at 21:45, but was delayed due to bad weather. Flights face a safety risk due to a combination of factors: due to local weather conditions, the plane may be too heavy to take off.

The pilot then informed the passengers that due to the large number of passengers on the flight and the heavy weight of the plane, coupled with the short runway at Lanzarote Airport and strong winds, the plane was too heavy to take off. If possible, we hope that 20 passengers will voluntarily give up this itinerary.

EasyJet said a number of unfavorable factors, including wind speed and direction, a short runway and hot weather, made the take-off too risky.

EasyJet confirmed that 19 passengers had agreed to disembark and receive €500 in compensation to spend the night in Lanzarote and catch a flight the next day.

An easyJet spokesman said this was a routine operational decision in these circumstances and all airlines have weight restrictions in place for safety reasons. If the flight exceeds the weight limit, we call on some passengers to voluntarily get off the plane and transfer to a later flight for free. This happened this time, and the voluntary passengers were compensated according to regulations.
