According to CCTV News, on February 15, flight 8G882 from Xiamen to East Timor took off from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, marking the official opening of the passenger route from Xiamen, China to Dili, East Timor, and also the first passenger route in China that flies directly to the Democratic Republic of East Timor.

East Timor is an island country located at the eastern end of the Nusa Tenggara Islands in Southeast Asia, with rich natural resources and unique cultural charm. With the continuous development of bilateral relations, exchanges and cooperation between China and East Timor in the fields of economy, trade, culture, education, etc. are becoming increasingly close. The opening of this route is also the practical result of the two sides signing the cooperation plan for the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and multilateral cooperation in the fields of air transportation.

The route is operated by Dili Airlines, which plans to operate 2 flights per month (2 in and 2 out), with a flight time of about 5.5 hours. According to statistics from the Gaoqi Border Inspection Station, the number of citizens of the two countries traveling between the two countries in the past two years is about 7,000. The opening of this route will provide a more convenient transportation option for personnel exchanges between the two countries, which is of great significance to promoting exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two countries.

In order to ensure the smooth opening of the route, Gaoqi Border Inspection Station comprehensively sorted out the immigration management policies related to East Timor, carried out targeted business strengthening training, and improved the efficiency of port inspection. At the same time, the online filling service of foreigners' entry cards was opened, and a pre-consultation post was added. The Portuguese and English professional backbone police officers of the foreign language volunteer service team were dispatched to provide pre-guidance and assistance, and all efforts were made to ensure efficient and smooth customs clearance for inbound and outbound passengers.

It is understood that Chinese citizens enjoy very convenient entry policies when traveling to East Timor. They can choose to apply for a visa on arrival when arriving at the country's international airport or port, and the maximum stay period is 90 days.
