Air India founder arrested

 

India's financial crimes agency arrested Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal on Sept. 1, Reuters reported, in what local media said was a connection to Canara Bank. 5.38 billion Indian rupees ($65.06 million) money laundering case.

 

According to local media reports, Goyal was detained under the Anti-Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after a lengthy interrogation by Mumbai law enforcement agencies.

Canara Bank sued Jet Airways, Goyal, his wife and a former Jet Airways director in May for "improper loss to the bank".

Jet Airways, once India's largest private airline, filed for bankruptcy in April 2019. The company was originally scheduled to resume operations under new owners in the first quarter of 2022. However, Jet Airways and creditors are at an impasse over a resolution to lift the company out of bankruptcy.
