Airport blackout for 5 hours, transport minister apologizes

 

According to Reuters reports, on the evening of August 25, local time, there was a major power outage in many places in Kennedy, and Nairobi International Airport was plunged into darkness. On August 26, Kenyan Transport Minister Kipchumba Murkomen apologized.

The Kenya Electricity Company stated that at 9:45 p.m. on August 25, power outages occurred in many places in Kenya.

 

The footage of the local TV station showed that the main terminal of Nairobi International Airport was dark and crowded with passengers. Some passengers used the flashlights on their mobile phones to illuminate them.

The Kenya Airports Authority said backup generators used in the terminal building failed to start after the outage.

 

Generators used to control electricity for flights and runways at the airport have been operating normally, Murcomen said. The outage did not pose a danger to the plane or passengers.

 

Murcomen said, I sincerely apologize to all passengers and airport users affected by the power outage.

 

According to the Kenya Power Company, the power supply at the airport was restored after about 5 hours of power outage.
