According to Indian media reports, a fire broke out in the right engine of an Air India Express passenger plane shortly after takeoff on May 18. The flight immediately made an emergency landing and was evacuated.
Air India Express flight IX1132 was scheduled to fly from Bangalore to Cochin, with 179 passengers and 6 crew members on board.
No one was injured in the accident.
Bangalore Airport stated that on the evening of May 18, Air India Express flight IX1132 scheduled to fly to Cochin reported an engine fire and made an emergency landing at Bangalore Airport at 11:12. The airport declared a state of emergency. After the plane landed, the airport fire department immediately put out the fire. All people on board were safely evacuated.
An Air India Express spokesperson said that due to suspicious flames in the right engine, the Bengaluru-to-Cochin flight returned and landed safely. Ground personnel also reported seeing flames, and the flight immediately initiated an emergency evacuation. No one was injured. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Indian regulatory authorities will investigate the cause of the accident.
