As the blizzard continued to rage on the evening of the 16th, flights at Toronto's two major airports were delayed on a large scale, and some flights were forced to cancel.
Erica Vera, a spokesperson for Toronto Pearson International Airport, told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in an interview on the morning of the 16th that since the evening of February 15, the airport has "invested more than 160 pieces of equipment" to actively clear snow from the five runways. On that day, more than 400 flights were delayed at Canada's busiest airport, and another 250 flights were canceled. Despite this, Vera emphasized: "The vast majority of flights are still operating (whether delayed or not)."
Flights at Billy Bishop Airport were most affected by the winter storm over the weekend, with nearly 40 of the airport's 50 scheduled flights canceled on the 16th. Billy Bishop Airport relies on only one usable runway for commercial flights. Pearson International Airport was less affected, as it has five runways.
