Civil Aviation Resources Network, November 5, 2024: According to Aviation A2Z, a ground crew member at Helsinki Airport in Finland was killed in an accident in the early morning of November 2, local time. The ground crew member was trapped between an airplane and a garbage truck and was unfortunately crushed to death.

It is reported that the passenger plane involved is an A350-900 (registration number OH-LWO) of Finnair, which flew flight AY62 from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Helsinki Airport in Finland on the same day. After the passengers got off the plane, the ground staff began to prepare for the next flight of the passenger plane.
During this process, the tractor was preparing to move the plane from the boarding gate to a distant parking space, but did not notice that there was a garbage truck behind the plane and the ground staff were still cleaning the plane's toilet. In order to clean the toilet, the ground staff used a mobile ladder to connect the waste hose on the truck to the interface on the fuselage of the aircraft.
According to PYOK, when the plane was towed, the ground staff was caught between the plane and the garbage truck and died. Finnair confirmed that the plane is currently undergoing maintenance.
Local police received an alarm about the accident at around 5:14 am and have launched a criminal investigation into the tow truck driver. A spokesperson for Aviator Finland, a third-party ground handling company, said the company was holding a meeting with employees to discuss the matter. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. "Our priority now is to ensure that incidents like this do not happen again."
