British Airways pays big as tourism rebounds

Civil Aviation Resource Network News on August 5, 2023: According to Chinanews.com, on August 4, the British United Trade Union stated that about 24,000 British Airways employees will receive a 13.1% salary increase within 18 months.

This wage increase reflects the high level of inflation in the UK and the rebound in tourism after the new crown epidemic. British Airways was forced to lay off more than 10,000 staff in response to the coronavirus pandemic, but added thousands more as travel demand hit 2019 levels.

The deal also includes a one-off payment of £1,000 and the possibility of further wage increases during this period if inflation remains high, the United Union said in a statement. BA workers had voted on 13.1 percent of the proposal and accepted it, the United UK union said.

The U.K. union said the agreement overturned controversial decisions made by British Airways during the worst period of the new crown epidemic. In short, this has both restored and increased wages.
