Southwest Airlines converts 24 Boeing 737 MAX7 orders to MAX8s
Civil Aviation Resource Network, August 4, 2023: According to Reuters, Southwest Airlines stated that the company has exercised the option to deliver 30 Boeing 737 MAX7s next year and decided to convert the existing 24 MAX7 orders to MAX8.
Boeing said the first deliveries of the 737 MAX 7 will be delayed until 2024. Therefore, Southwest Airlines decided to convert part of the 737MAX7 order to the MAX8 model that is already in operation, which will buffer the impact of delivery delays.
Prior to this, Southwest Airlines also released its quarterly and full-year performance forecasts. The report showed that the company's second-quarter results fell short of expectations. Southwest Airlines CEO Robert Jordan (Robert Jordan) said that the company plans to test fly the MAX7 "sometime next year", but if it cannot be successfully delivered, the company will accept an order for the 737MAX8.
