Delta flight returns due to engine failure
On September 1, local time, a Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 suffered an engine failure and erupted flames while taking off and climbing. The flight subsequently returned.
Delta Air Lines flight DL79 flew from Prague Airport to New York JFK Airport. As the plane took off and climbed, the right engine made a loud noise and spewed flames. The crew immediately stopped climbing at an altitude of 3,000 feet, shut down the right engine, and then returned to Prague Airport and landed safely.
The airport runway was closed for approximately 30 minutes until the aircraft was towed off the runway.
