On February 5, 2026, Civil Aviation Resource Network reported that, according to Air Live, a Jet2 flight from the Canary Islands to Manchester was forced to declare a state of emergency upon final approach to Manchester Airport on the evening of February 3 local time due to a pilot's incapacitation.
Jet2 flight LS980, operated by an Airbus A321 aircraft (registration number G-SUNU), departed from Lanzarote (ACE) at 15:45. The flight proceeded normally across the Atlantic towards the UK until approximately 25 minutes remained before its scheduled arrival time.
During the descent to Manchester, the crew issued an emergency code 7700. Air Traffic Control (ATC) was notified that a pilot was unable to continue the flight due to a sudden health issue.
Despite the incapacitated crew member, the aircraft continued its approach under ATC priority. The aircraft finally landed safely on runway 05L at 20:14, approximately four and a half hours after takeoff.
Airport firefighters and paramedics were on standby as a precaution. The aircraft taxied to its parking position, where the incapacitated pilot reportedly received medical treatment.
