1. Japan Airlines Says December Passenger Revenue on China Routes 20% Lower Than Expected
According to The Japan Times, Japan Airlines stated that its passenger revenue on China routes in December 2025 was approximately 20% lower than expected due to the notice from China advising its citizens to avoid travel to Japan. Japan Airlines stated that this weak trend continued into January and beyond.
2. Indian Competition Regulator Orders Investigation into IndiGo
According to Reuters, India's competition regulator has ordered an investigation into IndiGo. IndiGo's widespread flight cancellations in December 2025 shook the Indian aviation industry. IndiGo is the largest airline in India by market share, canceling approximately 4,500 flights in the first few weeks of December, leaving tens of thousands of passengers stranded across India and highlighting the lack of competition in India, the world's fastest-growing aviation market.
3. UK Civil Aviation Authority Demands Air India Explain Boeing Dreamliner Fuel Switch Issue
According to Reuters, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has demanded that Air India explain how a Boeing 787 Dreamliner took off from London on February 1st with a potentially faulty fuel switch. The aircraft was grounded upon arrival in India pending safety checks. The CAA warned that if Air India does not submit a complete response within a week, it may take regulatory action against Air India's Boeing 787 fleet.
4. Scandinavian Airlines in Wide-Body Aircraft Order Talks with Boeing and Airbus
According to Reuters, Scandinavian Airlines CEO Anko van der Werff stated in an interview with Bloomberg News on Wednesday that the company is in talks with Boeing and Airbus for a large wide-body aircraft order due to its positive outlook on growing long-haul travel demand. Werff said Scandinavian Airlines is considering Boeing 787 and 777X models, as well as Airbus A350 and A330neo models, but he did not disclose how many aircraft the company plans to purchase.
5. Emirates to Consider Ordering A350-2000 Wide-Body Aircraft
According to Reuters, Emirates CEO Tim Clark reiterated his call for aircraft manufacturers to produce larger aircraft, stating that Emirates will consider ordering a larger version of the A350, provided Airbus continues its work on this new wide-body aircraft. Airbus stated last November that it was studying the so-called A350-2000.
6. IndiGo Cuts Some Long-Haul Flights Due to Airspace Closures and Airport Congestion
IndiGo announced on Wednesday that it will suspend its long-haul flights to Copenhagen and cut some flights between Delhi and the UK, citing airspace closures and airport congestion caused by geopolitical tensions as operational constraints. IndiGo is the second Indian airline, after Air India, to scale back its overseas operations. Air India has already suspended some US routes due to Pakistan's ban on Indian airlines using its airspace.
