Civil Aviation Resources Network, August 8, 2025: According to foreign media reports, Emirates Airlines has announced that it will ban the use of all types of power banks on board its flights starting October 1, 2025.
According to reports, passengers are permitted to bring one power bank with a capacity of less than 100 watt-hours on board, and the power bank must be clearly labeled with information such as the capacity rating. However, passengers are prohibited from using it on board. The ban also includes using power banks to charge devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and cameras, as well as using the aircraft's USB or AC outlets to charge the power bank itself.
Furthermore, power banks are prohibited from being stored in overhead bins. Emirates emphasizes that "power banks must be placed in the seat pocket or under the seat in front of you."

Emirates said the move was a proactive risk prevention measure taken after a comprehensive assessment of power bank safety. The company noted that "the use of power banks by passengers has grown significantly in recent years, leading to a growing number of incidents involving lithium batteries within the aviation industry."
