Civil Aviation Resource Network July 21, 2022: According to a Reuters report on July 20, Acting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Billy Nolen said on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Farnborough Air Show that delays and cancellations have hampered traffic and U.S. airlines' travel performance is improving after sparking outrage from government commissioners and passengers.

Billy Nolen said: "We're watching things very closely. We've seen a good improvement, we can see the overall delay rate going down... Airlines are also trying to adjust their capacity."

Since April, airlines have been pointing the finger at the FAA for a shortage of air traffic controllers that is causing flight delays and cancellations, but Billy Nolen said "most of the problems have nothing to do with the shortage." Billy Nolen also said the FAA is working hard to recruit air traffic controllers. "We are on track to recruit 1,000 controllers this year."
