Civil Aviation Resources Network, March 12, 2025: According to Reuters, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Tuesday that it would extend the ban on US flights to Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, until September 8 for safety reasons.
According to previous reports, on November 12, 2024, local time, the FAA suspended US airlines' flight operations in Haiti for 30 days due to growing safety issues. Subsequently, the FAA announced that it would allow US airlines and general aviation pilots to fly to six airports in northern Haiti, including: Port-de-Paix, Cap-Haitien, Pignon, Jeremie, Antoine-Simon and Jacmel.
The FAA said on the 11th that armed groups still control most of Port-au-Prince and have used weapons to fire at civil airliners, helicopters and airports, causing damage to several aircraft and injuring crew members. The FAA warned that armed groups in Haiti pose a significant threat to grounded aircraft and low-altitude flight operations.
