Readers face increasing difficulties in identifying genuine feedback.
According to research by Originality.ai, AI-generated reviews on the Amazon platform have increased by 400% since the launch of ChatGPT. AI algorithms now mainly generate extreme ratings, especially one- and five-star reviews.
AI-generated fake reviews about airlines surge
Airlines and passengers must now face the reality that AI-generated content may be distorting perceptions of service quality and trustworthiness.
One study analyzed reviews on the travel platform Skytrax, examining AI-generated content from 10 global airlines. The analysis shows that AI-generated airline reviews have increased significantly in recent years.
In the past 3 years, since the launch of ChatGPT, AI-generated airline reviews have increased by 189%. Data shows that AI-generated content was relatively rare before 2017, but has grown steadily among many airlines since then. The introduction of advanced language models may have contributed to this trend, as more sophisticated text generation tools became widely available.

Southwest Airlines and United Airlines have a high proportion of false reviews
In 2024, Southwest Airlines will have the highest proportion of AI-generated reviews among U.S. airlines, at 8.7%. Meanwhile, United Airlines has seen the most significant increase in the number of false reviews over the past year, with a 157% increase.
