Civil Aviation Resource Network September 14, 2022: The French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) has asked airlines to halve their flight schedules for Friday, September 16, due to the planned strike by air traffic controllers.
On Tuesday, France's civil aviation authority said it had asked airlines to halve Friday's flight schedules across France as air traffic controllers and the French air traffic controllers union (SNCTA) went on strike to seek pay raises. France had around 1,852 scheduled departures on Friday, with airlines such as Air France, easyJet, Transavia, Ryanair and Volotea expected to be more affected, according to Cirium data.
SNCTA expects to negotiate with the Civil Aviation Authority on issues such as controller recruitment conditions and wage increases in response to rising inflation around the world. According to SNCTA, there was no response from the French Civil Aviation Authority and the government, which could only be interpreted as "ignorance and provocation against us".
In response to the strike, the French Civil Aviation Authority has reduced some air traffic preventively, maintaining only minimally regulated services. The French Civil Aviation Authority expects a large number of flight cancellations and delays across the country, and advises passengers to "check with the airline in advance to find out how the flight is going". At the same time, the French Civil Aviation Authority is also seeking to cooperate with Eurocontrol, the European air travel regulator, to help international airlines circumvent French airspace.
