On November 1, 2025, Civil Aviation Resource Network reported that on October 29, local time in Toulouse, Hainan Airlines, a subsidiary of the newly established HNA Aviation Group, received a brand-new Airbus A330 aircraft in Toulouse, France. On the morning of November 1, Beijing time, the newly acquired Airbus A330 successfully landed at Haikou Meilan International Airport and is scheduled to officially enter service soon.
On the morning of the same day, Hainan Airlines held a grand welcoming ceremony at Haikou Meilan International Airport. After arriving, the new A330 aircraft passed through a water salute, symbolizing the highest level of civil aviation protocol, officially joining the Hainan Airlines fleet. Xu Gang, Executive Vice President of Airbus Global and CEO of Airbus China; Liu Yinan, Director, Executive President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Liaoning Fangda Group; Ding Yongzheng, Senior Vice President of Liaoning Fangda Group and Chairman of HNA Aviation Group; Zhu Tao, Vice President of HNA Aviation Group and Chairman of Hainan Airlines; Gui Haihong, Vice President of HNA Aviation Group and Secretary of the Party Committee of Hainan Airlines; Yu Chaojie, President of Hainan Airlines; Guo Shuo, Vice President of Hainan Airlines; and representatives of the media attended the welcoming ceremony, witnessing this important moment.
It is understood that the newly introduced Airbus A330 aircraft has a total of 301 seats, including 24 business class seats and 277 economy class seats. To ensure a comfortable journey for passengers in all cabin classes, the business class features a staggered 1-2-1 layout, guaranteeing direct access to the aisle for every passenger. This provides both convenience and privacy, while also allowing for greater freedom of movement. Economy class seats offer a 30-34 inch legroom, providing passengers with ample space to stretch their legs. Notably, the economy class seats on Hainan Airlines' new A330 are domestically produced by AVIC, marking the first time Chinese-made seats have been included in the selection criteria for mainstream international wide-body aircraft. Furthermore, the highly acclaimed "Dream Feather" cabin interior design, following its debut on the Boeing 787, is being fully implemented on this new Airbus A330, creating a warm and soothing sensory experience through its color scheme, lighting, and materials. The aircraft is also equipped with industry-leading 4K ultra-high-definition screens, and all cabins support high-power USB-C ports and Bluetooth connectivity, significantly enhancing the entertainment and charging experience.
As of October 31, 2025, Hainan Airlines will operate 29 A330 family aircraft and 10 Airbus A320 family aircraft. The newly introduced A330s offer a maximum range 700 nautical miles longer than their predecessors, providing the fleet with a more diverse range gradient and allowing for more flexible route planning and capacity allocation. These new aircraft will be primarily deployed on approximately 15 key long-haul routes to Europe, Oceania, and the Middle East, continuously expanding and densifying the "Air Silk Road" network. Simultaneously, these advanced and efficient new aircraft will also serve premium express routes departing from Beijing and Haikou, as well as express routes to the Free Trade Port, thereby achieving efficient connections between international and domestic route networks.
The new aircraft possess superior operational economics and environmental performance, highly aligning with Hainan Airlines' green and sustainable development philosophy. It is equipped with the next-generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engine, which, with its higher bypass ratio, significantly improves propulsion efficiency, reducing fuel consumption per unit thrust by more than 10% and correspondingly reducing carbon emissions. This plays a crucial supporting role in achieving environmental goals such as the Carbon Offset and Reduction Initiative in International Aviation (CORSIA). Furthermore, the engine employs advanced acoustic design, combined with a larger diameter fan and optimized air intakes and nozzles, resulting in a noise level reduction of more than 6 dB compared to its predecessor and a noise footprint reduction of nearly 50%. Simultaneously, the new A330 aircraft has been certified to use Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) with a blend ratio of up to 50%, and is expected to support 100% SAF in the future, further reducing its life-cycle carbon footprint. It is reported that this new A330 aircraft was refueled with 5% SAF fuel during its ferry journey, demonstrating its commitment to low-carbon flight. In recent years, Hainan Airlines has continuously promoted the construction of a green aviation system, building a comprehensive carbon emission management network covering the entire process, focusing on key aspects such as deep aircraft weight reduction, refined flight management, fuel-saving flight operations, and zero-carbon ground control. To date, over 3.27 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced, equivalent to the annual carbon dioxide absorption of approximately 120,000 mu (about 8,667 hectares) of forest. This fully demonstrates Hainan Airlines' solid actions and remarkable achievements in green and low-carbon aviation.
Driven by both the recovery of the international travel market and the policy dividends of the Hainan Free Trade Port, Hainan Airlines' introduction of the new A330 aircraft is a significant step in forward-looking market planning and precise grasp of development opportunities. This move will inject new aviation momentum into Hainan Free Trade Port's efforts to build a high-level open new pattern and strengthen its global connectivity. As the only SKYTRAX 5-star airline in mainland China, Hainan Airlines will always adhere to the bottom line of safety, deeply practice the concept of "sincere service," continue to uphold the spirit of innovation, and constantly expand its service boundaries. With 5-star airline service quality, Hainan Airlines will provide passengers with a safe, convenient, and comfortable air travel experience, contributing to the high-quality development of China's civil aviation!
