According to the German Press Agency, heavy snow fell in Bavaria, where Munich is located, and its neighboring state of Baden-Württemberg, bringing land and air traffic to a standstill.
A spokesman for Munich Airport said that the airport suspended all inbound and outbound flights before 6 a.m. local time on the 3rd.
Deutsche Bahn issued a notice on its website, announcing that it would suspend all long-distance trains and regional lines throughout the day on the 2nd, including trains to Salzburg and Innsbruck, Austria.
Munich's subway, light rail and bus services were also temporarily suspended. Due to snowy roads and slippery roads, many traffic accidents occurred in Bavaria, resulting in injuries. A fatal traffic accident was reported in the state of Baden-Württemberg when two cars collided and a driver was killed.
The German Meteorological Office predicts that heavy snowfall will continue to sweep across southern and southeastern Germany on the 2nd. Local officials advised people to avoid going out as much as possible and wait for municipal workers to clean the roads and traffic to return to normal before going out.
