Civil Aviation Resource Network November 4, 2022 News: Today, the Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Agency (AAIA) under the Transport and Logistics Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has made an investigation into a plane crash that occurred in San Cup Jiu, New Territories on February 26, 2017. , published Investigation Report No. 7/2022. The aircraft involved was a Cessna 152 aircraft of the Hong Kong Flying Club (registration mark B-HHN).

At 10:32 a.m. that day, the plane took off from Shigang Airport with two pilots on board for a flight test. On the way back to Shigang Airport after completing the test, the captain noticed that the engine was not running smoothly and immediately notified air traffic control. Afterwards, the engine condition deteriorated, the captain performed an unpowered forced landing, and the plane crashed into flora and trees near the driving range of the Three Cup Wine Gardening and Golf Center. The plane was badly damaged, and neither pilot was injured. The incident is classified as an accident according to the International Civil Aviation Organization guidelines.

The investigation is carried out by a professional accident investigation team in accordance with international standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization. The investigation report found that the aircraft was required to recover from an abnormal attitude as part of a relevant flight test. In the meantime, the aircraft did not use the carburetor to heat, which may cause the carburetor to freeze, causing the engine to run poorly, and the captain had to perform an emergency landing. In addition, given the prevailing environmental conditions, the carburetor was prone to severe ice formation. The investigation team made a safety recommendation to the Hong Kong Flying Association.

A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Agency said: "The purpose of the investigation is to find out the circumstances and causes of the accident, so as to avoid the recurrence of similar incidents."

During the investigation, the Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Agency has fully consulted all relevant parties on the report.

The Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Agency is an independent investigative agency responsible for investigating civil aviation accidents and serious accidents in accordance with the Hong Kong Civil Aviation (Accident Investigation) Regulations (Cap. 448B) and with reference to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
