On July 31, the Hong Kong Airport Authority announced the official launch of the world's first mobile express baggage check-in service.
The mobile express baggage check-in service is the latest extension of the "Easy Boarding" smart technology of Hong Kong International Airport. Passengers can now register online and scan their travel documents through their smartphones before leaving for the airport, and can go directly to the express baggage check-in counter after arriving at the airport to complete the baggage check-in by themselves using their smartphones. There is no need to go through any procedures at the airline's fixed counters or mobile smart check-in counters. The entire process will be shortened from the current approximately three minutes to one minute.
Eligible passengers can now complete the entire departure process of registration, document authentication, baggage check-in, exit inspection and boarding at the airport through the facial recognition technology of "Easy Boarding". Only Hong Kong International Airport in the world allows departing passengers to use smart technology and cooperate with mobile phones to complete all the above procedures by themselves.
All departing passengers aged 11 or above can use the "Easy Check-in" and the newly added mobile express baggage check-in service. They only need to hold an electronic travel document, including a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport issued after May 14, 2019, or a Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents (commonly known as the "Home Return Permit"), or an electronic passport issued by other countries and regions, or a Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents with a valid endorsement, and meet the visa-free requirements of the destination they are traveling to.
Currently, all passengers on Hong Kong Express flights can use the mobile express baggage check-in service through the airline's mobile app. From August 1, 2024, Cathay Pacific will provide mobile express baggage check-in services to passengers traveling to all destinations except the United States. Hong Kong Airlines expects to launch the service by the end of this year. In the future, the Airport Authority plans to expand the service to more airlines.
