1. Hong Kong Airport Considers 36-Hour Closure Due to Approaching Super Typhoon
According to sources familiar with the matter, as Super Typhoon Bhagatsa approaches, Hong Kong International Airport is considering suspending all passenger flights for 36 hours, which would be the longest suspension in recent history. Sources familiar with the matter said that airport and aviation officials plan to suspend all flights from 6 p.m. local time on Tuesday to 6 a.m. on Thursday in preparation for the typhoon.
2. Gatwick Airport's Second Runway Plan Approved
UK Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander approved Gatwick Airport's £2.2 billion plan for a second runway. The privately financed project aims to increase annual flight capacity by 100,000.
