The three-month test will be conducted in Parking Lot 9 at Kennedy Airport and monitored by ABM Aviation security personnel. The test vehicles are provided by AV technology company Ohmio and are clearly marked to indicate that they are autonomous vehicles. Two vehicles that can carry 8 passengers will drive around Parking Lot 9 and stop at 15 stations, including the AirTrain JFK station at Howard Beach and Lefferts Blvd.

The Port Authority has been testing autonomous driving technology since 2022. In order to improve the efficiency of shuttle buses through the Lincoln Tunnel, the agency installed automated queue management and lane keeping systems on special vehicles. The application of this technology can ensure that the buses travel more orderly and smoothly in the tunnel.

Port Authority Chairman Kevin O'Toole said: "The autonomous fleet can give us the opportunity to take more passengers to where they want to go within the airport. We can serve more passengers safely and efficiently."
