On June 18, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that since the start of the World Cup last week, the U.S. has seized more than 50 drones around the stadiums.

The U.S. FAA prohibits drones and other aircraft from flying over World Cup match areas and related fan events. During match days, except with special air traffic control authorization, all aircraft (including drones) are prohibited from flying within a three-nautical-mile radius and 3,000 feet above the ground around stadiums. At fan events held nationwide, drone flights are also prohibited within a one-nautical-mile radius and 1,000 feet above the ground around stadiums.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that 150 drone incursions into restricted airspace occurred at the eight World Cup venues, including 36 in Atlanta.

On June 17, the anti-drone team intercepted eight drones during the 2026 World Cup matches and FIFA Fan Festival at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

The FAA stated that drone operators who enter restricted airspace without authorization may face fines of up to $100,000 and criminal charges, as well as drone confiscation.
