According to information posted by netizens on social media, Terminal 2 of Urumqi Airport has been transformed into the Xinjiang Haining Leather City.
At midnight on April 17, 2025, the North Terminal Area of Urumqi Airport began operation, and Terminals 1, 2, and 3 were closed. The future use of the three old terminals has become a topic of concern in the industry.
On March 10, 2026, Xinjiang Airport Group and Haining Leather City held a signing ceremony for the Haining Leather City Xinjiang Airport Project, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the integrated development of airport commerce and the leather industry. The project is located in Terminal 2 of Urumqi Airport, with a planned usable area of approximately 54,800 square meters.
According to Xinjiang Airport Group, on June 16, the Xinjiang Haining Leather City officially launched its investment promotion. This comprehensive commercial complex, integrating leather trade, fashion display, and cross-border trade, will officially open in September this year, becoming a new landmark for distinctive consumption in the Urumqi Airport area. Currently, the Xinjiang Haining Leather City is accelerating its interior decoration and operational preparations.
