Civil Aviation Resource Network News on November 29, 2022: Recently, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that the Republic of Rwanda has obtained its International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) Category 1 rating and complies with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO, referred to as " International Civil Aviation Organization") standards.

The FAA's International Aviation Safety Assessment Program focuses on a nation's ability to comply with international aviation safety standards and recommended practices, which are based on standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The FAA has determined that the Republic of Rwanda meets the requirements for a Category 1 rating following a thorough review of the Republic's progress in improving its safety oversight program. A category 1 rating means that the country's civil aviation authority complies with ICAO standards. Under a Category 1 rating, properly authorized Rwandan air carriers are permitted to serve the United States and enter into codeshare agreements with U.S. airlines without restriction.

Through the International Aviation Safety Assessment Program, the FAA conducts assessments of all national civil aviation authorities. Airlines from these countries have either applied to fly to the U.S., are currently operating in the U.S., or participate in codeshare arrangements with U.S. partner airlines and provide relevant information to the public.
