Civil Aviation Resources Network, September 23, 2024: According to foreign media reports, on September 18, local time, a Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) A320neo (registration number SE-DOX) was operating flight SK4683 from Oslo, Norway to Malaga, Spain, and made an emergency landing at Copenhagen Airport in Denmark because a passenger found a live rat in his meal.

Passenger Jarle Børrestad said on Facebook: "Believe it or not, a female passenger next to me opened her food and a rat jumped out. Now the flight has to turn around and return to prepare to land at Copenhagen Airport to transfer to other flights."

Scandinavian Airlines quickly confirmed the incident and said it sent a replacement plane (registration number SE-ROR) to take the passengers to Malaga. "This is extremely rare. We have developed a plan to deal with such situations, which includes checking with suppliers to ensure that such incidents do not occur again," said Scandinavian Airlines spokesman Øystein Schmidt.

After the discovery of the rat, the flight made an alternate landing in Copenhagen, Denmark, to replace the aircraft and meals, which is a standard handling procedure, Scandinavian Airlines spokesperson Alexandra Lindgren Kausi told USA Today. The aircraft involved needed to be inspected and handled, and the entire journey was delayed by about two and a half hours.

A similar incident occurred in 2017. A rat on board prevented a British Airways plane from taking off from London Heathrow Airport. After a delay of four hours, the passengers eventually had to take another plane to their destination.
