A few days ago, the State Council officially approved the Macau Special Administrative Region Government, agreeing to the expansion and reclamation of the Macau International Airport. The Chief Executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region, Ho Iat Seng, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Central Government for its significant support to the SAR on behalf of the Macau SAR government.
Since 2017, the Macao SAR government has continued to maintain close communication with relevant state ministries and commissions on this work, and has carried out a number of important thematic studies on water conservancy, environmental impact assessment and other aspects in accordance with the guidance requirements. In August 2021, the Macao SAR Government will submit the application and complete report for the expansion of the Macao International Airport to the Central Government. The recent approval from the central government is encouraging, which fully reflects the central government's care and support for Macao's development. The Macao SAR Government hopes that in the future recovery and development of the aviation industry in Macao, the improvement of the airport infrastructure and the opening of the air transport market will ensure the sustainable development of the civil aviation industry in Macao.
Ho Iat Seng said that since the establishment of the Macao SAR, the central government has been giving Macao preferential policies to promote economic and social development. In September of this year, after hearing reports on the current economic situation and related work in Macau, the central government decided to support the acceleration of Macau's tourism recovery and infrastructure development, actively responding to the concerns of the majority of Macau residents. The expansion and reclamation of the Macau International Airport will help expand the development space of the Macau Special Administrative Region, and is more conducive to Macau’s integration into the overall development of the country and its participation in the “Belt and Road” construction, helping Macau’s economic recovery and laying a solid foundation for Macau’s moderately diversified development goals.
During the process of the Macao SAR government's application for the expansion and reclamation of the Macao International Airport, it has received valuable guidance and strong support from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government of Macao and relevant state ministries and commissions. He Yicheng expresses his sincere thanks for this.
