The video shows the aircraft slowly descending to the runway before landing abruptly, its wings bouncing, and yellow flames and thick white smoke billowing from beneath the fuselage. The aircraft taxied slowly along the runway, disappearing into the smoke after the initial burst of flames. The aircraft began to decelerate before the video ended.

NASA stated that the crew landed the aircraft at Ellington International Airport, southeast of Houston, and that it is "all safe." NASA also stated that the incident was due to a "mechanical malfunction" and will be investigated.

The slender aircraft is a NASA WB-57. This two-seat aircraft can fly at high altitudes (over 63,000 feet/19,200 meters) for approximately 6.5 hours.

According to NASA's website, the WB-57 has been used for research missions since the 1970s and remains an important asset to the scientific community.
