A person familiar with the matter said: "Now it seems that the prospects for C919 to obtain EU certification in 2025 are more optimistic."
The report pointed out that an important task of the European technical personnel's visit is to operate and evaluate the C919's D-level simulator. The simulator uses real cockpit equipment and is designed to replicate takeoffs, landings and various emergency situations as realistically as possible. According to information released by COMAC last year, these simulators replicate the real C919 cockpit in full size, significantly improving the visual effects and expanding each pilot's horizontal field of vision. Coupled with the increase in motion effects, they can more accurately Simulate various flight events.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency delegation also boarded a C919 aircraft. This was their second personal experience with the C919 after their visit in March. It is reported that they spent several hours inspecting the cockpit and passenger cabin and discussing specific details together. A person familiar with the matter said: "They asked for a lot of details, paying special attention to the commercial operation of C919 on domestic airlines."
The inspection in July was part of the compliance verification, the third and most important stage of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency's four-round certification process. In between, aircraft manufacturers must demonstrate that their products comply with regulatory requirements regarding structures, engines, control systems, electrical systems and flight performance.
The report pointed out that no test flight was carried out during last month's evaluation, and sources said that the test flight may take place later this year or early next year.
Relevant people in the Chinese civil aviation industry said that the visit of the EU Aviation Safety Agency delegation marked another step forward for EU regulatory agencies in understanding Chinese aircraft and their design and manufacturing, calling it "a breakthrough."
The South China Morning Post pointed out that COMAC first applied for EASA certification in 2019. One year after the C919 completed its first commercial flight in May last year and successfully opened domestic routes, the certification process is "accelerating."
