Three women broke into the airport without permission and splashed paint on a passenger plane, causing a female police officer to be injured during law enforcement and was sent to the hospital for treatment.
According to the Irish National Broadcasting Corporation, three women aged between 20 and 50 broke into the airport without permission after destroying the airport fence and caused damage to a Boeing 767-330 passenger plane of Omni Air International. It is understood that the passenger plane was parked at the No. 42 position at the end of the terminal. According to witnesses, the three people splashed red paint on the plane.
During the on-site arrest, a female police officer was injured and was subsequently sent to the University Hospital of Limerick for evaluation. The police confirmed that there was no danger to life.
The three women involved in the case were arrested on the spot by the police, and the police are currently conducting further investigations into the incident. In a statement, the Irish police said: "At about 4 pm on May 17, the police received a report that three women broke into the outer area of the airport and caused damage. The woman involved was subsequently arrested on the spot and is currently in custody. During the arrest, a police officer was injured and has been sent to Limerick University Hospital for assessment. He is not in danger of life and the investigation is ongoing." Shannon Airport also confirmed that after the incident, the airport's flight operations were suspended for about 30 minutes, but the overall flight schedule was not significantly affected. The investigation is still ongoing.
