Civil Aviation Resource Network, November 7, 2022: According to Reuters, airlines around the world are updating their flight route plans to cope with the decline in one-day business trips. Industry data shows that business travelers are traveling longer than they were before the pandemic, forcing airlines to adjust their flight schedules. Environmental concerns, rising fares, staff shortages have led to a dramatic increase in flight cancellations, and the widespread use of online videoconferencing are all eroding travelers' options for one-day trips.

In this regard, airlines have to make adjustments to maximize revenue. For example, American Airlines is adding more midweek flights. Most travelers are traveling more for business and leisure, and many of them take advantage of the greater flexibility to work remotely.

Amid skyrocketing airfares, the average length of business travel within Australia increased from three days in 2019 to nearly four days in the third quarter of this year, according to Flight Centre Travel Group Ltd (FLT.AX).

Qantas and Virgin Australia say higher airfares have so far offset the decline in business travel. One-day trips accounted for about 4% of global domestic business travel in 2019, up from 3% today, according to travel management firm CWT.
